Phyllis Lorraine , 87, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2019, having endured Parkinson's Disease for many years. Predeceased by her loving husband, Peter George Yelick. Survived by her cherished sister, Shirley Habeger (Duane). Beloved Mother of Karen (Jeff) Vorchheimer, Ann (Michael) Schuck, and Julie (Robert) Miller. Dearest Nana of Adam, Eric and Samantha Vorchheimer, Peter (Katy) and Aaron Schuck, and Marianne and Douglas (Nadee) Miller and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Alexsei Schuck.

She is fondly remembered by her friends and family. She was born to a farming family in Lone Rock, Iowa. She was the admired daughter of Anna and Melfred Mitchell. She obtained a two year teaching certificate from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa where her first assignment was in a one room schoolhouse. One Summer she made her way to Colorado Springs, Colorado where when she was working as a waitress, she met and married Peter Yelick. He was stationed in Colorado Springs in the Army. After the Army, Peter was fortunate to be able to go to college at Western Michigan University on the GI Bill. He excelled at his studies in a large part thanks to Phyllis's patient tutoring. Three girls, Karen, Ann and Julie soon arrived. Phyllis obtained her Bachelor degree and later her Master Degree in Education from Wayne State University.

Phyllis was a working mother ahead of her time. She worked over twenty years as an elementary school teacher in the Utica School District. She loved her family and made many sacrifices to provide for them. She was active in the Lutheran church serving as needed in teaching Sunday School, Bible Study and on committees. She was also active in the Girl Scouts when her daughters were in the Scouts. She loved gardening, sewing, doll collecting and art. She was a docent at the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) for many years. Her core values were honesty, kindness, a strong work ethic, and love for her family.

A celebration of her Life will be held on October 19th, 2019 at 1100am at First Lutheran Church in Algona, Iowa with interment at St John's Cemetery, Cylinder, Iowa next to her beloved husband, Peter. In lieu of Flowers, please send memorials to St. Anne's Mead Angel Fund (Southfield, Michigan).
