Raymond Avery Carpenter, 87, passed peacefully to Eternal Life on June 18, 2022.
Ray was born in Cummings Township near Havelock, Iowa, on October 12th, 1934, to Merle (Albaugh) and Avery Carpenter. He grew up in Ellington and Nevada Townships in Palo Alto County, Iowa, with his parents, brother Paul, and sisters Betty, Jean, Cheryl, Marion, and Glenda. Ray graduated from Rodman High School in 1953 and joined the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic, serving in Missouri, Texas, Colorado, and Kansas from 1954-1956.
He married Phyllis Elaine Barringer at the First Baptist Church of Curlew in 1958 and raised his family on a farm near Mallard, Iowa. After farming for 40 years, he drove truck for another 25.
Ray's faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior was very important to him. He attended First Baptist Church of Curlew and Pocahontas Baptist Church of Pocahontas. He lived his faith by teaching Sunday School, serving as a deacon, and helping others in large and small ways.
Later in life, he could often be found out mowing the lawns of others, doing things with his grandchildren, or tinkering in his garage. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, daughters Lynell (Tim) Kuhn and Leanne; and his sons Les (Tammy), Lauren, Lindy, LaVern (Patricia), Lee (Emily), and Lenard; 26 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Betty, Cheryl, Marion and Glenda.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul, sister Jean, and daughter Leisha.
