Richard Albert Clasing, son of Albert W. and Mary S. (Currans) Clasing, was born October 20, 1930 near Ruthven, Iowa. He received his education in Ruthven, graduating from Ruthven High School in 1949. Dick served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Japan.

After being honorably discharged from the service, Dick returned to Ruthven where he farmed. He was united in marriage to Merrylea Garrelts in 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. To this union four sons were born.

Dick later married Joyce Barg and they made their home in Ruthven. They built a new house in Ruthven where they have continued to lived.

Dick loved farming and was a cattle feeder for his entire life. He also sold insurance in Emmetsburg and Spencer.

Dick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. He was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Post #33, the Iowa Cattlemen's Association, and Palo Alto County Cattlemen's Association. Dick had served as a 4-H Leader for many years.

Each spring Dick looked forward to planting his garden with both vegetables and flowers. He especially enjoyed raising roses. Dick liked hunting deer out west when he was younger and hunting pheasant and duck in the area. He was an avid card player and loved playing Pinochle and Poker with his friends. Dick was a fan of John Deere tractors. His father traded his team of horses for a 35B John Deere tractor and Dick had the joy of restoring this tractor.

Dick passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at his home in Ruthven, Iowa, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Robert Clasing; brother, Dale Clasing; sister, Audrey Drake; and a step son, Bruce Barg.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Ruthven, Iowa; his children, Steven Clasing of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Paul Clasing of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Kevin (Kitty) Clasing of Mason City, Iowa, and Jay (Deanna) Clasing of Ruthven, Iowa; step children, Renee (Mike) Elbert of Royal, Iowa, and Christine (Jeff) Henderson of Omaha, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Kristie (Dustin) Palmer, Kari (Andy) Pelkner, Kourtney Clasing, Sarah Clasing, Molly Clasing and Tyler Clasing; two step grandchildren, Michael and April; three great-grandchildren, Camden, Devon and Elodie; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra (Hal) Wilke of Mesa, Arizona; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
