From 1956 to 1976 Bob was an owner of Andersen Construction Company, doing building construction throughout the state of Iowa. From 1976 until his retirement in 1991 he farmed in Palo Alto County.
On June 16, 1957 Bob was united in marriage to Carol Larsen at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. To this union a son Robert A. "Rob" was born.

Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, golf, hunting, boating, fishing and camping. He and Carol enjoyed summers at the Iowa Great Lakes and winters in Arizona for many years. They enjoyed traveling as a family and made many trips with their travel trailer throughout the United States and Canada. A traveling highlight was a trip to Europe where they had the opportunity to visit many relatives in Denmark.
