Robert LeRoy Mortenson, son of Engold and Sigrid (Simonsen) Mortenson, was born October 24, 1934 in Webb, Iowa. He spent his childhood years growing up in Webb and Ayrshire. Bob graduated from Ayrshire High School in 1953.

Bob served in the United States Navy from December 1, 1955 until August 30, 1957 when he was honorably discharged. Bob returned back to Iowa.

On October 18, 1959 Bob was united in marriage to Janet Snavely at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. To this union six children were born.

Bob was employed at Berkley's in Emmetsburg and then began working as the custodian at Emmetsburg Community School and Bethany Lutheran Church. Bob worked at the school for twenty four years. He then went to work at the Emmetsburg Care Center before he retired.

Bob loved fishing, working in his garden and yard. He also spent time tinkering in his garage and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Bob passed away Monday, February 3, 2020, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, Engold and Sigrid Mortenson; his wife, Janet; granddaughter, Calista Fjetland; three sisters, Ellen Baysinger, Shirley Struve and Joanne Lewis; and three brothers, Harris Mortenson, Lawrence Mortenson and Jim Mortenson.

He is survived by his children, Bob and Sheryl Mortenson of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Jeff and Kathy Mortenson of Mallard, Iowa, Cory and Tammy Mortenson of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Julie and Kevin Carver of Faucett, Missouri, Shari and Coke Fjetland of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Tonya Petersen and Madhan Prabhakaran of Emmetsburg, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Fran Mortenson of Dickens, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Jeanine Snavely of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Karen Mortenson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; brother-in-law, Keith Snavely; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
