Robert "Bob" Eugene Peterson, son of Andrew and Ruby (Taylor) Peterson, was born August 5, 1936 in Ruthven, Iowa. He received his education from country school near Ruthven.

On December 18, 1958, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country for 20 years as an aircraft systems mechanic. Bob received numerous commendations including five Good Conduct medals along with the National Defense Service Medal Award before his retirement from the Navy.

Bob married Delores Sterba and was later married to Peg Sassman.

He first worked in Rock Rapids, Iowa, manufacturing and distributing countertops and cabinetry. Then, after moving to Emmetsburg, Iowa, he was employed at IEI until his retirement. Bob was a skilled wood worker and enjoyed using his talents for his trade.

Bob was a Lifetime Member of VFW Post #2295 in Emmetsburg as well as American Legion Post #173 in Ruthven. His experience in the Navy helped form his lifestyle as he was always known to have a clean house and be well dressed. He loved to go for drives with friends, go out to dinner, and socialize as much as he could. He enjoyed being around others.

On Sunday, December 31, 2023, Bob passed away in his home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ruby Peterson; brothers, Gerald Peterson, Don Peterson, and John Peterson; brothers-in-law, Phil Frisbie and Eldon Horstmann; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Peterson.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Bonnie Horstmann of Sutherland, Iowa and Karen Frisbie of Anderson, California; sister-in-law, Mary Beschorner of Graettinger, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Arrangements by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
