Roger Grant Berkland, son of Roger A. and Linda Lee (Freeman) Berkland was born February 23, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa. He received his education in Emmetsburg, graduating from Emmetsburg High School in 1987. Following graduation, Roger enrolled at Gustavus Adolphus College, receiving his B.A. in Psychology in 1991.

On March 30, 2013, Roger Grant was united in marriage to Tina R.G. Goodwater. Roger Grant and Tina built a home in St. Francis, Minnesota, where they enjoyed the comforts of home with their two dogs, Holly Rose ("Rooster") and Viv ("Bubba Anne"). They also enjoyed time traveling, especially time spent on the North Shore of Minnesota at Gunflint Trail and Gunflint Lake. They enjoyed walleye and trout fishing, finding new fishing honey holes, bonfires with neighbors, big Sunday breakfasts and gardening.

Roger Grant loved being with his family. His most cherished time was that which he spent with Tina and his children. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsmen. He enjoyed spending time with the family pets, horses and deer. Another interest Roger Grant had was playing cards, especially 500. He was known to bid 8 hearts, despite his hand. Roger Grant always enjoyed a good mayonnaise or peanut butter sandwich.

Roger Grant was very charismatic; great with young and elderly alike. He loved to share his passion and knowledge for fishing with children. He was loved and will be missed.

Roger Grant passed away suddenly of heart-related complications Monday, January 4, 2016, at his home in St. Francis, Minnesota, at age 47. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Roger A. and Linda Lee Berkland.
