Ronnie Eugene Joenks, son of Kenneth and Hilda (Plagman) Joenks, was born November 23, 1940 in Spencer, Iowa. His family later moved to Rossie where Ronnie received his education, graduating from Rossie High School in 1958.
On September 7, 1959, Ronnie was united in marriage to Barbara Williams at the United Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. To this union three children were born. They made their home and raised their children at their acreage near Greenville.
Following high school, Ronnie went to work for Johnston Automotive in Spencer and later was employed at Merrill Company and Eaton Corporation. Ronnie then worked at the Ethanol Plant in Storm Lake before operating his own mechanic and maintenance shop in Rossie.
Ronnie was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer. He had served on various boards in the church as well as helping in other capacities during services.
Ronnie was never one to sit around. He loved to stay busy and was always fixing something. He enjoyed his mechanical work and was very talented at repairing all kinds of things. He loved to spend time with his children especially helping them with their 4-H projects. Ronnie and Barb moved to Spencer a couple of years ago and made their home there.
Ronnie passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Jeanna Joenks; and brother-in-law, Ronny Langholz.
He is survived by his wife, Barb of Spencer, Iowa; his children, Neil (Cathy) Joenks of Rossie, Iowa, Shannon (Larry) Van Daalen of Waverly, Iowa, and Jim Joenks of Everly, Iowa; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his sister, Judy Langholz of Spirit Lake, Iowa; as well as other relatives and many friends.
