Sally Jeanette Johnson, 85, went to be with our Lord on July 5, 2018, after succumbing to a long battle with carcinoid cancer. Sally was the daughter of Frank and Grace King. She was born in Dickens, Iowa on June 8, 1933. She began her education in a one room school house and graduated from Spencer High School. Sally married Gale Johnson of Lake City, Iowa in July 1951 and had two children, daughter, Deborah Johnson of Sun City, Arizona and a son, Randy W. Johnson of Spencer, Iowa.
Sally was a member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church of Sun City, Arizona. She really enjoyed the two Red Hat Clubs, two Mahjong Clubs, water volleyball and D.N.R. of Aqua Fria. Before moving from Spencer, she served as Treasurer of the Spencer Ladies Federated Club and won the Iowa State Silver Plate for the club by collecting and delivering a large number of medical and dental products for the people in need on reservations in Arizona. In 1968 Sally and Gale, along with Stub Johnson, Wayne Nielson, Leo Gray and Rich Gray worked in getting the Pony Express Ride for Easter Seals because of their handicapped daughter and it is still going strong today. For seventeen years she sold entertainer's tickets for the county fair at the grandstand and the last three years she donated her time working in the craft and baking department at the fair.
Some favorite things she loved to do - raising pretty flowers, planting big gardens, fishing, snowmobiling, riding horses with the saddle clubs, golfing, bowling, modern dancing and later square dance clubs.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Gale, her parents, a sister, Yvonne, of Goodyear, Arizona and her husband Roy Kampfe, a brother (Bud) Morgan Dale King of Reno, Nevada. Sally is survived by a daughter, Deborah of Sun City, Arizona, son, Randy and wife Keven of Spencer, Iowa, three granddaughters, one grandson, two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
