Shirley Ann Enns, daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Rierson) Thu, was born May 15, 1937 in Graettinger, Iowa.  She received her education in Graettinger, graduating from Graettinger High School in 1955.  Following high school, Shirley was employed as a bookkeeper and worked at a bank.

On November 28, 1965 Shirley was united in marriage to Marvin "Muff" Enns in Graettinger, Iowa.  They were blessed with a son, John and and a daughter, Karla.

Shirley and Muff owned and operated Enns Electric for fifteen years in Ruthven.  After Enns Electric closed, Shirley began working at Reinders Farm Equipment.  She was later employed at S.N.C. Manufacturing in Emmetsburg and Reicke Farm Equipment, before accepting the position of secretary at Zion Lutheran Church.  Shirley worked at the church for ten years before retiring.

Shirley was a faithful and devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving on the church board and church circle, helping in any capacity that she could.  She was also a member of the Community Club and the Ruthven Firemen's Auxiliary.

Shirley enjoyed knitting, crocheting and baking. In the summer Shirley looked forward to gardening and canning the produce that she raised.  She was an avid sports enthusiast and especially liked watching baseball and football, as well as watching any activities her children or grandchildren participated in.  Shirley was employed at the Ruthven Community Care Center for a period of time and later volunteered for several years.

Shirley passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa, at the age of 86.  She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ruth Thu; her husband, Muff; brothers, Ronald and Allen Thu; a sister, Claris Peters; and a grandson, Joseph Griggs.

She is survived by her children, John A. (Paula) Enns of St. Joseph, Missouri and Karla J. (Doug) Griggs of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; five grandchildren, Chris (Ashley) Henderson, Daniel Enns, Cameron (Hannah) Henderson, Nicole Griggs,  and Paige (fiancé, Chaise VanScoy)  Griggs; great grandson, Nash Henderson; her sister, Twilla Thoreson of Forest City, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
