Shirley Joy Ezarski, daughter of M. Jean and Ann (Dewall) Christiansen, was born November 20, 1956 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She received her education at Havelock/Plover Community School, graduating from high school in 1975. While in high school, Shirley qualified for the Iowa State Track Meet. She participated in both the 100 yard and 220 yard events. She also played softball and basketball as well as participating in the school band. Following graduation, Shirley continued her education at Iowa Lakes Community College where she completed her A.A. Degree.
On April 30, 1977 Shirley was united in marriage to David Ezarski at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons.
Shirley was employed as a clerk at Pamida and later the ALCO store. After a few years she began working at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg in the custodial and maintenance division. She remained there for twenty one years until her health forced her to resign.
Shirley enjoyed playing on the women's volleyball team in Emmetsburg and making quilts. Her true passion was bike riding and being a part of the Emmetsburg Bike Club, riding in RAGBRAI for many, many years where she made countless friends from all over.
Shirley passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Unity Point Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 65. She was preceded in death by her parents, M. Jean and Ann Christiansen and a brother, Craig Christiansen.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Ezarski of Emmetsburg, Iowa; her sons, Jason (Kristina) Ezarski of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Luke (Lizzie) Ezarski of Woodward, Iowa; four grandchildren, Zoe, Kaleigh, Cooper and Josephine; a brother, Dean Christiansen of Plover, Iowa; sisters, Karen (Robert) Martin of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Judy (Al) Lemke of Manchester, Iowa; sister-in-law, Jackie Christiansen of Mitchell, South Dakota; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
