Shirley Ann Funk, daughter of Arlie and Frances (Carson) Mills, was born January 1, 1936, in Graettinger, Iowa. Shirley was the youngest of eleven children in her family. She graduated from Humbolt High School in St. Paul, Minnesota.

On April 7, 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to Lloyd Funk in Whittemore, Iowa. To this union three children were born.

Shirley and Lloyd farmed near Whittemore and Cylinder. Shirley enjoyed traveling and vacationing with Lloyd and watching old movies. She also enjoyed crocheting, especially making Christmas ornaments and doilies for her family and friends. She will certainly be remembered by her family, for her delicious apple crisp and popcorn balls. Most of all Shirley loved being there for her family and anyone that needed her. She was always willing to help others. After Lloyd's death, Shirley was employed at Emmetsburg Food Pride.

Shirley passed away Monday, August 7, 2017, at the Milford Care Center in Milford, Iowa, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; seven brothers, Alvin, John, Earl, Dale, Robert, Donald, and Kenneth Mills; and one sister, Alice Ploghoft.

She is survived by her children, Sandy Funk of Black Hawk, Colorado, Holly Fogarty and her husband, John of Spencer, Iowa and Danny Funk and his wife, Gretchen of Spencer, Iowa; three grandchildren, Benjamin Fogarty and his wife, Val, Ashley Fogarty and Kalei Funk and her fiancé, Austin Fox; and two sisters, Eva Kotula of Willmar, Minnesota and Betty Pompe of Rockford, Illinois; as well as many other relatives and friends.
