Shirley Ann Weisbrod, daughter of LeRoy and Edith (Thomson) Sprout, was born June 16, 1925, in Palo Alto County, Iowa. She began her education in country school, and graduated from Emmetsburg High School. Shirley was active in 4-H during her school years.

Following high school, she began teaching in country schools and later taught in Rodman and Cylinder. Shirley then taught many years at Emmetsburg Community School before her retirement. She completed her Bachelors Degree in Education by attending summer school and went on to earn her Masters Degree in Psychology, from Drake University.

On July 15, 1945, Shirley was united in marriage to Wallace Frank Weisbrod in Cylinder, Iowa. To this union five children were born.

Shirley and Wally owned and operated Cylinder Camper Sales in Cylinder for many years. They enjoyed their trips with the Cylinder Cruisers Club and the National Campers and Hikers Association. They traveled south in the winter, finally settling in their park model in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Shirley was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Cylinder and later the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Shirley was an active member of WSCS and church circle in both congregations. She was also a member of the Cylinder Women's Club, Reading Club, and Red Hat Society.

Shirley will be remembered by everyone for the delicious pies she baked not only for her family but for the Cylinder restaurant as well.   She also did beautiful embroidery work and made quilts. Shirley loved to read and often read five to seven books a week, holding the honor of reading the most books in the state of Iowa.

Shirley was a prolific writer of prose and poetry and an avid bird watcher. Her kind demeanor and lovely smile were a gift to everyone she came in contact with.

Shirley passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace; sister, Dorothy Place; brothers, Robert Sprout, Lyle Sprout and Blaine Sprout; brothers-in-law, Harlan Place, Robert Weisbrod and Joe Hanson; and son-in-law, Dick Zuber.
