Vendell Charles Rezabek, son of James and Myrtle (Olson) Rezabek, was born October 12, 1932 in Rutland, Iowa.  He began his education in Fort Dodge and then after his family moved to Ruthven Charlie continued his education in Ruthven, graduating from Ruthven High School in 1950.  Following high school Charlie worked for an area farmer until being drafted into the United States Army on April 16, 1953.  Charlie was stationed in Korea, serving during the Korean War until being honorably discharged on April 20, 1955.  After returning to  Palo Alto County, Charlie began working at the Ayrshire Telephone Company and soon became manager.

On April 4, 1959 Charles was united in marriage to Rita Doyle at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire, Iowa.  They were blessed with four children.

While living in Ayrshire, Charlie served on the City Council and was later elected Mayor.  He was an active member of the American Legion Post #173 in Ayrshire and stayed a member for his entire life.

In 1986 Charlie and Rita purchased the Suburban Motel and moved to Emmetsburg.  Charlie continued to manage the Telephone Company for a few more years, before retiring.  He and Rita owned and operated the Suburban Motel for many years.

Charlie was a faithful and devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, attaining his 4th Degree as a Knight.   Charlie's faith was very important to him and as a member of Sacred Heart in Ayrshire, he taught C.C.D. classes to high school students.  Charlie served as a reader and eucharistic minister at both Sacred Heart and Holy Family.

Charlie was a family man and loved teaching his children how to build and repair things.  He taught them to water ski, ice skate and enjoyed going sledding with them.  He shared many stories about his childhood with his children and grandchildren and made sure each of them knew…"Anything worth doing, was worth doing right."  Charlie loved traveling and he and Rita had the opportunity to take many trips around the world as well as in the United States.  He enjoyed his John Deere tractor, listening to music,  and especially attending the Summer Theatre and shows when they wintered in Branson.  Charlie never knew a stranger and could visit with anyone he met.

Charlie passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Myrtle Rezabek; a sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Glen Meng; and a brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Lois Rezabek.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his children, Jeff (Nanci) Rezabek of Spencer, Iowa, Brian (Ellie) Rezabek of the Philippines, Michael (Karen) Rezabek of Central Missouri  and Valerie (Jay) Marriott of Branson, Missouri; ten grandchildren, J.C., Annely, Collin, Charlie, Conor, Curtis, Kevin, Ryan, Eric and Drew; three great grandchildren, Rianna Taylor, Amelia and Easton Rezabek; sister-in-law, Roseann Doyle of Milford, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
