Virgil William Huberty, the son of Nick and Malinda (Thilges) Huberty, was born on January 16, 1934, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Virgil's father arrived at Ellis Island in 1920, immigrating from Luxemburg and settling in St. Joseph, Iowa where he met his future bride.  Virgil graduated from Cylinder High School in 1952. Virgil served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58 and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas (during the same time that Elvis Presley was stationed at Fort Hood!). On June 10, 1961, Virgil was united in marriage with Virginia Lou Howard at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Virgil worked at Palo Alto Implement, Elbert Chevrolet in Whittemore, farmed and in the gas department at Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities. After retiring in 1996 he helped farmers with field work. He also served in the Emmetsburg Fire Department for 26 years, 12 years as Fire Chief. Virgil volunteered his time for the VA since 2000. He enjoyed gardening, yearly fishing trips with friends to Canada, coffee with friends at Krause Motors and making sure the grandkids cars were filled up with gas.

Left to cherish Virgil's memory are his children, Robert "Bob" Huberty of Emmetsburg, Cheryl (Paul) Hamilton of Bancroft and Karyn Huberty of Emmetsburg; grandchildren, Brian (Katelyn) Hamilton, Adam (Megan) Hamilton, Caroline (Adam) Brandt, Emma (Colten) Munter, Samantha (Greg) Spaethe and Brandi (Kameron) Jager; great grandchildren, Aiden & Lyla Sorensen, Landon Harper, Kingston Jager, Briggs, Olivia, Ellie Hamilton, Raelyn & Kaden Hamilton and Luke Brandt; brothers, Gary (Connie) Huberty and Larry (Lou Ann) Huberty; a sister, Rose Ann (Mike) Houliston; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Stephanie (Huberty) Gregor; great granddaughter, Adeline Huberty in infancy; and siblings, Venoyde Huberty, Jeanine Schneider and LeAnn Dahm.
